Week in Review (August 15–21, 2025)

Series at Toronto Blue Jays

Friday, Aug 15: Rangers fell 5–6 in a tight opener, despite early home runs from Kyle Higashioka (three-run) and Marcus Semien (two-run). Alejandro Kirk turned the game with a huge two-run homer in the 7th and a two-run single in the 8th.

Saturday, Aug 16: Blown out 14–2. Madison Lauer dominated, while the Rangers’ offense was silenced.

Sunday, Aug 17: Rangers bounced back with a convincing 10–4 win behind Nathan Eovaldi.

Series at Kansas City Royals

Monday, Aug 18: Narrow 3–4 loss.

Tuesday, Aug 19: Dropped again 2–5.

Wednesday, Aug 20: Rebounded with a 6–3 win.

Thursday, Aug 21: Closed the week with a 4–6 loss.

Overall Record This Week (Aug 15–21): 2 wins, 5 losses.

Summary:

The offense showed life in a couple of outings — Semien’s early power and Eovaldi’s dominant Sunday start stood out.

But consistency remains an issue — two lopsided losses and late-inning breakdowns proved costly, especially on the road.

Playoff Picture Heading into the Weekend (as of August 22)

Seattle Mariners: 68–60 — holding the third wild card slot

Kansas City Royals: 66–62 — 2.0 games behind the top wild cards

Cleveland Guardians: 64–62 — 3.0 games back

Texas Rangers: 63–66, now 5.5 games behind the wild card (tied stake), trailing the top group.

6th in AL Wild Card race (63–66), 5.5 games behind top wild card teams

Outlook

Rangers must string together wins and count on some help to re-enter contention — the window is closing fast

If you want a snapshot that depicts the direction the Rangers are moving in, look no further than their record the past two weeks. They have 3 wins and 10 losses in the last two weeks, a 3-10 record! It’s kind of hard to believe, but that’s where we are.

Things can turn around and change for the better at any time, as Bruce Bochy reminded everyone last week. However, if they don’t for whatever reason, then fans will be glad that the other teams in the area are starting their seasons soon, so they can shift their focus away from a possible non-playoff season. It’s never too late to turn things around; it’s just a matter of time. Can the Rangers turn this two week slump around? We’ll all find out together!
